Director
Brian Roach
Joined AISF in August 2019

Mr. Roach served as the Director of Verita International School in Bucharest, Romania from 2016 to 2019. Previously Mr. Roach was Director at the International School of Kigali-Rwanda from 2013 to 2016.  Mr. Roach has extensive administrative experience first as secondary principal and then as middle school Principal at the American International School of Bucharest. Mr. Roach worked twice at the International School of Tanganyika in Dar es Salaam as a teacher 1991-1994 and a vice principal1998 to 2004.  Along with certifications in both education and international school leadership, Mr. Roach earned a BA in History at the University of British Columbia in 1981, a Diploma in Guidance Studies (Counseling Psychology) at the University of British Columbia in 1999 and an MA in Educational Leadership at Lehigh University. He has taught ELL (English Language Learning) in British Columbia.

Becky Fayose James

Mrs. James joined AISF as the teaching assistant for English and Social Studies in grades 3 through 8. Mrs. James has worked in partnership with teacher Moira Henderson for three extremely productive years. Before leaving Nigeria with her husband, Mrs. James served as the full time class 1 teacher at the Jolice Montessori School in Ore, Ondo State. Early childhood and primary education are a long term interest. Mrs. James earned a BS degree in Biology at the University of Abuja. During her time at AISF Mrs. James has completed her US teacher certification for grades KG through 8 through the Teach Now program, one of the newest and most prestigious certification courses in the US.  She is US certified anywhere in the US with original certification in Washington DC. Mrs. James earned an MA degree in education also with Teach Now.

Kimberley Gardner

Kimberley Jane Gardner
Joined the AISF Community September 2016

Ms. Gardner has 12 years of teaching experience in the primary grades. She was most recently the teacher for children from PreK4 to Grade 1 at the Sunshine School in Jerusalem. Previously she taught Year 1 at Rygaards International School in Copenhagen, Denmark and Kindergarten and Grade 1 at the Bemerton St. John Primary School in Salisbury England.  Mrs. Gardner has a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from the University of Winchester in the UK. In addition she earned a BA with Honors in Modern European Studies from Ealing College London. In the 2018/2019 school year Mrs. Gardner will take on a leadership role with teaching and learning at AISF in addition to her current classroom teaching.

Joy Kamara
Joined the AISF Community August 2019

Ms. Joy Kamara taught various grade levels in primary school for 7 years in a group of three private schools affiliated with the Anglican Church, mainly at Christchurch School in Greenwich.  Ms. Kamara earned her BA (Hons) in Cultural and Media Studies at the University of the West of England where she also earned an educational qualification in Early Years. At Bristol University she completed a Masters of Education in Special and Inclusive Education. Ms. Kamara earned her Qualified Teacher Status (PGCE) at London Southbank University. Joy Kamara is deeply trained in the integration of technology into classroom learning and has experience in differentiating instruction, a skill especially important at AISF in our multi-age and grade classrooms. Ms. Kamara was the science leader for her previous school, developing curriculum, monitoring teacher quality and pupil achievement, and leading staff meetings to share ideas.

Derrick Zamzow

Derrick Zamzow
Joined the AISF Community in September 2017

Mr. Zamzow taught science and math as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone in 2013 and 2014. He returned to Sierra Leone as a Response Volunteer in 2016 again teaching science and math while also collaborating with counterparts to implement best teaching practices. In September 2017 Mr. Zamzow served as one of our two teachers in the Grade 9 Pilot program. He designed and implemented both the service learning and the community exploration portions of the program. He also supported our grade 9 students in Biology and Algebra. Mr. Zamzow earned a BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin 2012 and worked as a phlebotomist before joining the Peace Corps. In July 2018 Mr. Zamzow completed US teacher certification in grades 5 through 12 for math and science through the Teach Now program, one of the newest and most prestigious certification courses in the US. He is certified to teach anywhere in the US with original certification in Washington DC. Mr. Zamzow earned his MA degree in education also with Teach Now. He worked regularly in the classroom with Abram Cosby in the 2017/18 year.

Benjamin DeCoste

Benjamin Thomas DeCoste
Joined the AISF Community September 2018

Mr. DeCoste taught English at the Ayeyarwaddy International School in Mandalay, Myanmar for two years from 2016 through 2018. His previous experience teaching was in the US, first as a writing tutor at the Calderwood Writing Center in Boston and then as a grade 11 English teacher at Chelsea High School also in the Boston area. Mr. DeCoste earned his BA degree in English at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and is certified in English grades 5 through 12. He is also qualified in English Language Learning (ELL) and will be a good support for our students for whom English is their second or third language

Joined AISF Community in September 2018

Ms. Kircough was the Head Teacher at Freetown Cheshire Primary School in the 2017/2018 school year. As the main administrator, her chief focus was training the teaching staff in order to raise the quality of curriculum and instruction at the school. Ms. Kircough installed a completely new library at Cheshire and also served as their coordinator of vocational education. Before her move to Freetown, Ms. Kircough taught upper and lower primary in the UK for 15 years. She served as a member of senior leadership in several schools and was a designer of curriculum and teacher supervisor. Ms. Kircough has an avid interest in music and was one of the founding members of the Freetown International Singers. She has been an enthusiastic promoter of music at AISF and produces the successful AISF Jazz Café.
